H. Medical ethics

1) Patient’s health is the first priority in medical services.
2) Patients should be respected, well treated without discrimination
3) Doctors should keep improving their skills and ask for help from seniors whenever needed.
4) Patients should be followed up till complete cure. If there is a second look in operative cases the situation should be explained to the patient.
5) No surgeon is allowed to operate on his first class relatives except in emergency situations and if there is nobody else to proceed.
6) Details of treatment, operative procedures, squealae and possible complications should be explained to the patient.
7) Medical reports only to be handled by patients, their guardians or to the concerned authorities in medico legal cases.
Patient’s file is confidential.
9) A second or even a third opinion is never a sham, even bedside consultations with other specialists is of great benefit especially in difficult cases.
10) No consultant will accept to his care any patient who is under another consultant’s care except in emergencies or with the permission of chairman in certain situations.
11) It is not allowed by any means to criticize other colleague’s opinion in front of patients because they immediately loss confidence in the whole system, direct colleague contact and discussion will solve many problems.
12) Secrets of patients are not inherited and it should not be mentioned in public for any reason.
13) During examination of patients there should be an attending staff nurse all the time.
14) Direct contact with other specialists solves a lot of problems, gives more orientation and saves time.
15) Junior doctor surgical training should only start after full theoretical orientation and doing training courses in the field, the responsibility is shared between him and his supervising senior, the former should know when to stop and the later should know when to take over.
16) If a new research is to be tried, consent should be taken from the patient and the higher authorities.
17) No photos to be published for patient’s faces except after consent, which if not given-eyes should be covered. In rhinoplasty all patients are giving a written consent for that.
